Roy Keane gave the ultimate compliment to the Manchester United attack after their victory over Liverpool, likening them to Man Utd legend Eric Cantona, proving Omar Berrada’s summer prediction right.
Manchester United recorded a hard-earned 2–1 victory over Liverpool on Sunday afternoon, as Rúben Amorim’s side took an important three points from Anfield.
United made an excellent start, taking the lead inside two minutes when Bryan Mbeumo finished confidently from a tight angle after being played through by Amad. The visitors continued to control the early stages, and Bruno Fernandes almost doubled the advantage but failed to make the most of a clear chance.
Amorim’s men went into the break with a narrow lead, but Liverpool began the second half with renewed intent. Cody Gakpo struck the post shortly after the restart, putting United under pressure for the first time.
Around the hour mark, Amorim turned to his bench, introducing Manuel Ugarte, Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, and Benjamin Šeško to add fresh energy and composure.
Liverpool eventually levelled the score when Gakpo converted from close range with just over ten minutes left to play. However, United responded almost immediately, as Harry Maguire rose highest to head home and restore the advantage.
Arne Slot’s side pushed hard in the closing moments, but United’s defence held firm to seal their first win at Anfield since January 2016.
Eric Cantona comparison made by Roy Keane
After managing only three goals in September, United have already scored four this month with a game still to play, which is an encouraging sign for their attack.
It was always expected that the three new forwards would need time to adapt to life at United and settle into Rúben Amorim’s tactical system, but recent performances suggest they are beginning to find their rhythm.
Speaking after the game, Roy Keane gave the attacking players the ultimate compliment, likening them to United legend Eric Cantona.
“They do look like they have goals in this team, that was a big problem last year. Some of the attacking players looked like there was a swagger about them. I liked that.
“Like all these players like Cantona used to do. Give me the ball, I can deal with it. And they dealt with it.”
Omar Berrada’s summer prediction proven right
Matheus Cunha was United’s first signing of the summer, with the club triggerring the £62.5 million release clause in his Wolves contract to bring him to Old Trafford.
The 26-year-old has had a relatively slow start to the season after a hamstring injury derailed the start of his season, but was brilliant against Liverpool despite not scoring or assisting, as he added some much-needed flair and skills that a traditional Brazilian winger would bring to a side.

When Cunha signed, Man Utd’s CEO, Omar Berrada said: “He’s got a bit of a swagger about him that people are going to really like. Dare I say, Cantona-esque.” Despite not scoring or assisting as of yet, the Brazilian can seemingly do virtually everything else, and adds some much-needed flair and skills that a traditional Brazilian winger would bring to a side.
Both Amad and Mbeumo have already been able to link up excellently, as seen by the opening goal, and Matheus Cunha, who was described as a “beautiful player” will look to develop that same chemistry with Dorgu, Diogo Dalot, or even Luke Shaw when Lisandro Martinez returns from injury.
