Roy Keane praises midfield star Man United fans are desperate for INEOS to sign
Roy Keane has praised one midfield star that Manchester United fans are desperate for INEOS to sign next summer.
The Reds started the season in underwhelming fashion with just one win in their opening three Premier League games.
Since then, the international break has broken the campaign up, and multiple players have been starring for their national teams, including some potential targets for INEOS in future transfer windows.
Roy Keane praises Angel Gomes for England
Speaking on ITV before England’s Nations League clash against Finland on Tuesday evening, Roy Keane offered praise for Angel Gomes before his full debut.
The former United academy graduate came off the bench in the 2-0 win over Ireland, and Keane was impressed by him.
“You know what, the first you thing you look at was he looked comfortable out there,” Keane said. “Obviously, the game, you could say it was dead and buried, but he looked comfortable out on the pitch.
“He looked comfortable in possession; he looked like he belonged out there; he’s had to go away and leave Manchester United, a big club, to go out for experience and get regular football.
“His body language as well, he doesn’t look giddy; some players look a bit nervous, but he looks comfortable, and he looked full of beans, as you’d expect.”
Gomes would go on to be a standout performer for The Three Lions in another 2-0 win over Finland. He completed 116 passes, 17 of which were played into the final third, and made two tackles.
United fans desperate for Gomes return
Gomes currently plays for French side Lille but is approaching the end of his contract and could be available for free next summer.
United are one of several clubs reported to be interested in their former player, and many fans would support this move.
Not only would a move present the opportunity for an academy graduate to return to the club, but he could also replace Christian Eriksen’s role as a deeper-lying playmaker with no fee involved.
The only question mark is around his ability to compete physically in the Premier League and whether United need a more ball-dominant style for him to fit in.
