Roy Keane has laid into Manchester United’s attacking department following a 2-0 Premier League defeat on Wednesday evening.

Rúben Amorim suffered his first loss as Manchester United‘s new head coach after the team fell to a 2-0 defeat against Arsenal on Wednesday evening.

Playing at the Emirates Stadium, United looked to nulify Arsenal’s in-form attack through staying in a tight defensive structure, and it worked well in the first half, albeit sacraficing their attacking momentum.

However, in the second half, Arsenal were able to push through and score two goals via corners, with United being undone by the home side’s physical prowess from the set piece positions.

Although there were some positives, such as the performances of Harry Maguire and a debut for Leny Yoro, there is a lot Amorim must break down and improve in the coming weeks.

Roy Keane’s reaction

Speaking on The Overlap following the result, former United captain and midfeilder Roy Keane had his say on the game.

Asked if he saw any improvement in United by ex-teammates Gary Neville, Keane said: “Not tonight, no. I’m really disappointed with United. I thought a few of the players had just gone through the motions a little bit. Easy for Arsenal.”

Fiurther, Keane went on to insinuate that United’s attacking trio of Rasmus Højlund, Mason Mount, and Alejandro Garnacho did not to enough, evienced by their lack of shots on target.

“Talk about the shape and the structure,” he continued. “The first half was fine, but… I was expecting a bit more. Like, how many shots on target?

“I don’t care about structures or whatever else, but… No, in terms… You expect a bit more from United, don’t you?”

Keane was then asked what he feels Amorim will be thinking afte rthe game, and what he will say to the players. “Not good enough,” was his reply.

Probing further, Neville asked: “Do you think he’ll say that to them?”, to which Keane replied: “Again, he’s only in the door. But I still think he should be looking. I’ve took over as Man United manager. I bet you deep down he’ll be thinking, I told you he’d be a bit better than this.

“Go forward. Whatever about the team shape and getting lads back and getting the players you want in, I’m still thinking… Oof. Well, I’m disappointed.

“I’m just watching here, lads closing on the left. United need a goal, they’re 2-0 down, and the lads going backwards and sideways. Need to get forward, need to try and score a goal, bloody hell.”
