Luke Shaw has delivered a 12-word verdict on one Manchester United star he thought was “unbelievable” against Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester United pulled off a stunning 2-1 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, with Amad Diallo’s late brilliance inspiring a dramatic comeback to secure all three points for Rúben Amorim’s team in a fiery Premier League clash.

The game began with both sides battling for control, but United were dealt an early blow when Mason Mount limped off injured after just 15 minutes.

City capitalized soon after, taking the lead through Joško Gvardiol, who headed home from a deflected Kevin de Bruyne cross following a well-executed short corner.

United responded strongly in the second half, dominating possession as they searched for a way back into the game. Despite their efforts, City’s defence held firm, and Bruno Fernandes squandered a great chance to equalize with 10 minutes remaining.

Then came Amad Diallo’s moment to shine. With just minutes left on the clock, the young winger weaved his way into the City box and won a crucial penalty, which Fernandes converted with composure to level the match at 1-1.

In the dying moments, Lisandro Martínez produced a moment of magic, delivering a sensational long ball that sent Amad racing clear. The youngster showed nerves of steel, rounding Ederson and slotting home the winner to complete a remarkable turnaround and hand United a memorable derby victory.

Luke Shaw’s verdict

Luke Shaw was one of the only United players who missed out on the squad due to injury, although Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, and Jonny Evans also missed out due to selection decisions from Amorim.

Shaw has fond memories of playing against City, scoring in a brilliant 2-0 win at the Etihad in 2021, but was not able to take part on the weekend.

However, he reserved special praise for Amad on his Instagram story after the game, citing that “the sky is the limit” for the Ivorian international.

“What a win!!” Shaw wrote, before accompanying a photo of Amad and saying: “The sky is the limit for this kid, he has everything. Unbelievable.”

Roy Keane agrees

Shaw’s assessment of Amad’s performance in Manchester was one that former Manchester United captain Roy Keane agreed with.

“Absolutely amazing,” Keane told Sky Sports. “(He’s a) 22-year-old player, no fear, playing with courage and punishing City for their mistakes. He had a brilliant day.

“It’s a starting point. They’re still in the bottom half of the league. We can’t get too giddy and excited. Man United have won a league match. It was a big win though. To beat Man City with five minutes to go, fantastic.”
