Roy Keane has praised a “brilliant” Manchester United star who left Gary Neville astounded for what he did to Manchester City and Pep Guardiola.

Manchester United claimed a dramatic 2-1 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, with Amad Diallo’s late heroics ensuring Rúben Amorim’s men took all three points in a thrilling Premier League derby.

The game began with both teams battling for control, but United suffered an early setback as Mason Mount was forced off with an injury inside the first 15 minutes.

City capitalized soon after, taking the lead through Joško Gvardiol, who headed in a deflected Kevin de Bruyne cross following a well-crafted short corner.

In the second half, United pushed hard to turn the tide, dominating possession but struggling to penetrate City’s resolute defence. Bruno Fernandes had a golden opportunity to equalise in the final 10 minutes but failed to find the net.

The breakthrough finally came through Amad Diallo, whose dazzling footwork won United a penalty with just minutes remaining. Fernandes stepped up and calmly slotted it home to bring United level.

But the decisive moment came in the dying minutes. Lisandro Martínez launched a stunning pass from deep, finding Amad in stride. The young winger showed ice-cool composure, rounding Ederson before slotting the ball into the net to complete a sensational comeback and secure a vital win for United.

Keane’s praise for Amad

Match-winner Amad Diallo was the talk of the town following the game, with former United midfielder Roy Keane praising him for his “brilliant” display.

“Absolutely amazing. (He’s a) 22-year-old player, no fear, playing with courage and punishing City for their mistakes. He had a brilliant day.

“It’s a starting point. They’re still in the bottom half of the league. We can’t get too giddy and excited. Man United have won a league match. It was a big win though. To beat Man City with five minutes to go, fantastic.”

Further, Gary Neville explained on Sky Sports’ commentary that he is astounded that Amad has managed to do something to Pep Guardiola that “never” had before as they extend their form to just one win in their last 11 games.

Neville said: “He kisses that badge on his shirt. This just does not happen to Manchester City. It doesn’t happen to Pep Guardiola. These fans have not seen the like for many, many years.

“The older ones will remember some challenging runs, some bad losses but these players, serial winners, serial champions, have not had it like this before.

“For Ruben Amorim and Manchester United and those players, sheer relief. Did they need that. It came from absolutely nowhere. He (Amad) was a beautiful shining light in that red shirt, he was really was, from minute one. Pep Guardiola is scratching his head again.”
