Romelu Lukaku spent two years at Manchester United before leaving to join Inter Milan in the summer of 2019.

Manchester United secured the signing of Romelu Lukaku in the summer of 2017 from Everton in a transfer worth £75 million.

The Belgian striker started very well at Old Trafford, scoring seven goals in his first seven Premier League games, including a brace against West Ham on his debut.

Lukaku was considered as one of the most lethal strikers in the division from his time at West Brom and Everton but things soon took a turn for the worse at United.

Despite netting 27 goals in his debut campaign, and then another 15 in the following season, Lukaku was heavily criticised at Old Trafford.

Whether it was fans and media mocking his first touch or when he missed a chance, the now-31-year-old had his reputation ruined during his time with the club, which led to a departure in the summer of 2019 to Inter Milan.

Lukaky breaks silence on unfair treatment at United

Lukaku has now made his feelings clear about his time at Old Trafford and in England, claiming that he doesn’t forget the way he was treated by the media at that time.

The striker, who is currently playing at Napoli alongside ex-United teammate Scott McTominay, believes that no matter what he did at United, he didn’t get the respect he deserved.

“I am a religious person, and God always tells us that you have to forgive, but I don’t forget,” Lukaku said, as per Gazete van Antwerp.

“That’s why I don’t give certain media any attention, I don’t even wish them a look. Sometimes you pay a price for that, but I don’t care. I’m not going to kiss someone’s hole to be loved.

“I remember my first game with Manchester United, the Supercup against Real Madrid. I scored but we lost and there was an opportunity I missed. We played the next game against West Ham, and I scored twice, and in the next game I scored again.

“But it was always ‘yes, but …’. I don’t get any respect. Then I knew that whatever happened, people would look at me with suspicion.”

Lukaku makes a good point. He was one player hounded by a lot of United media and some fans. But looking at the state of the striker situation right now, it seems like the club are missing someone like him.

The Belgian striker was a victim of aesthetics, yet he was someone who knew how to find the back of the net. United are desperately missing that right now.
