Roma ‘growing confident’ they will sign Jadon Sancho, deal change means Man Utd get exactly what they want

AS Roma are reportedly growing confident they will be able to secure Jadon Sancho as Rúben Amorim looks to secure fresh Manchester United funding this summer.

Earlier this summer, Rúben Amorim exiled five Manchester United players from his first-team squad, but so far only one has departed.

Marcus Rashford’s loan switch to Barcelona remains the only exit of the window, and since it is not a permanent deal, it has brought in little money, making sales even more important.

The next likely departure from Old Trafford is Alejandro Garnacho, with talks advancing over a move to Chelsea. The Argentine was forced out after Amorim dropped him from the squad following his post-Europa League final remarks.

As for the remaining three – Antony, Tyrell Malacia and Jadon Sancho – each has received proposals this window, but they have all rejected the offers, either in hopes of a different destination or in pursuit of higher wages.

Roma growing confident of Sancho transfer

Sancho has been linked so many clubs so far this summer, although after returning from a season-long loan at Chelsea, the winger is yet to have agreed personal terms on a move away from Old Trafford.

However, Serie A side AS Roma submitted a bid of around £20 million for the player, which United are prepared to accept – although the move will not go through until the player also agrees to the move.

According to Sky Italy, the Giallorossi have held positive talks with the player regarding Sancho’s wages, and there is confidence that an agreement will be reached.

Wages remain the only significant stumbling block in negotiations. Still, Sancho is willing to halve his current package at United to facilitate the move, with Roma offering around £4-5 million per season.

United getting what they want from the deal

Sky Italy report that the current negotiations centre on a loan deal for Sancho, with a clause that would make his move to Roma permanent for around £20 million.

For United, that figure is certainly a positive and could help fund the signing of a new midfielder in the final two weeks of the window. Just as important, though, is that Roma are expected to cover Sancho’s wages, saving United a further £15 million or so.

Sky Italy also make it clear that, for the loan to go ahead, United would need to extend Sancho’s contract by a year. This ensures he remains tied to the club at the end of next season, giving them the ability to sell. United hold an option to trigger that extra year.

While a loan would push back the arrival of funds by a season, it may be the more practical option right now and would still secure significant resources ahead of next summer.

Elsewhere, Rashford’s move to Barcelona includes a £30 million option to buy next summer, and Rasmus Højlund is being linked with a loan to AC Milan that carries a £40 million option to buy. Should all three deals be made permanent, United would begin the 2026 summer window with around £90 million in hand.
