Manchester United have been linked with a possible move for Rodrygo this summer amid an update surrounding Bryan Mbeumo.
Manchester United remain in talks over what would be their third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon, as a deal for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo edges closer to completion.
Rúben Amorim is looking to further bolster his attacking options after bringing in Cunha, although negotiations with Brentford for Mbeumo have progressed slowly.
An initial offer of £55 million for the 25-year-old was rejected in early June. A second bid, consisting of the same base fee plus £7.5 million in add-ons, was also turned down.
Despite the delays, there is increasing confidence that an agreement will be reached. Once a conclusion is reached regarding Mbeumo’s move to Old Trafford, United are expected to focus on player departures and continue their search for a striker and midfielder ahead of the Premier League’s mid-August kick-off.
United confident of Mbeumo arrival date
Updates on the Mbeumo situation have been scarce in recent weeks, with the player currently enjoying a holiday in the United States. However, he is expected to return to England within the next few days.
However, as per the latest English reports, Mbeumo is now set to join United in the coming week, ahead of the club’s pre-season tour.
United take on Leeds in Stockholm, Sweden next Saturday before heading to the United States for the Premier League Summer Series, where they face off against West Ham, Bournemouth, and Everton.
The same reports suggest that United are optimistic about making a breakthrough in talks with Brentford in the coming days. The Bees are reportedly demanding £65 million, with a preference for a larger portion of the fee to be paid upfront rather than in instalments.
Mbeumo is due to head back to London in the coming two days, as he is scheduled to return to pre-season training with Brentford on Monday.
Rodrygo to United transfer truth
While negotiations for Mbeumo have continued to stall, there has been speculation that United may move on to alternative targets if a deal for the Cameroon international cannot be struck in the next week or so.
According to Spanish transfer journalist Jorge Picon, United have long-admired Real Madrid winger Rodrygo, who has been continually linked with a move away from Spain this summer.
Picon describes that although United are close to landing Mbeumo, they are continuing to assess the market for other opportunities and have “really liked” the Brazilian, who is also a target for Arsenal, for an extended period.
However, with the club seemingly just days away from landing Brenford’s star man and the likelihood that they will focus on trying to sign a striker next, the truth of the matter is that Rodrygo will not be a concrete target for Amorim this summer.
