Robin van Persie has praised ‘very talented’ Alejandro Garnacho following the teenager’s breakout season at Manchester United.

Following last season’s FA Youth Cup glory, where Garnacho ended as the competition’s top scorer, the Argentine has emerged as a consistent option in the first-team for Erik ten Hag.

With 29 appearances to his name so far this term, the winger has four goals and five assists as he’s become one of the most dangerous weapons to come from the bench for United.

Unfortunately, Garnacho is currently on the sidelines following an ankle injury sustained against Southampton. He is expected to return before the end of the season but an exact timeline for his return is yet to be confirmed.

Van Persie, who won the Premier League in his debut season at United in 2013, has been impressed by the talented wide player this term.

“Garnacho is one to watch, you know he is still very young, a very talented player,” the former striker told BT Sport. “If you look how he handles difficult situations, how he handles pressure, how he creates, for his age, especially it is very special.”

Van Persie also namedropped his former Feyenoord teammate Tyrell Malacia, who was still a teenager whilst playing alongside the Dutch legend.

The left-back was signed by Ten Hag for just £13 million in what appears to be a shrewd piece of business in the modern transfer market. He offers intense competition for Luke Shaw and has adapted to the Premier League nicely.

“Tyrell Malacia, I used to play with him at Feyenoord and I’m really proud of him,” he added. “The way he does it, the way he plays – it’s a great example for young talents.”
