Roberto De Zerbi ‘has picked between Man Utd and Tottenham’ for next ‘logical step’ after Thomas Tuchel blow

Roberto De Zerbi has reportedly already decided who he would like to join between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur after leaving Marseille.

Multiple big European clubs will be looking to hire a new manager this summer after many sides fell short of expectations this season.

Rúben Amorim was fired by Manchester United while Tottenham Hotspur recently ditched Thomas Frank, and Real Madrid looks likely to be hiring again in the summer after Xabi Alonso was relieved from his duties just a few months into his post.

At the same time, there is intense pressure on Arne Slot at Liverpool after an underwhelming season, while Pep Guardiola could leave Manchester City at the end of the season.

Former Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi is of interest to plenty of clubs after he stepped down from his role at Marseille after their disastrous Champions League campaign, and could be heading back to the Premier League this summer.

De Zerbi picks between United and Tottenham

According to multiple reports, De Zerbi is one of United’s most promising candidates. He initially featured high on a list alongside Thomas Tuchel, although the latter looks set to extend his current contract with England, ruling him out of the Old Trafford job.

With Tottenham now looking for a new manager in the summer, the iPaper has reported that De Zerbi would rather see himself join the North London club over heading to Manchester, which is undoubtedly a blow for the Reds.

Spurs are said to want to appoint a new long-term boss before the season ends, and De Zerbi’s newfound availability favours them massively.

The Italian is said to see Tottenham as a much more logical next step in his career over United, which could see him ruled out of the job at Old Trafford this summer.

All paths leading to Carrick?

Since United sacked Amorim last month, many of the managers who would have been under consideration have since been dropping like flies.

Crystal Palace’s collapse under Oliver Glanser will have no doubt worried United’s board, while Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola is being closely linked as the German’s replacement in South London.

With Tuchel and De Zerbi seemingly unlikely, Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique would reportedly rather sign an extension with the French giants, which may rule him out from contention, too.

The only two ‘big names’ that could be open to the job are Germany’s manager Julian Nagelsmann and Brazil boss Carlo Ancelotti, although neither would be available until after the World Cup.

With multiple high-class managers seemingly unavailable for the job and Michael Carrick doing a stellar job as head coach until the end of the season, the former midfielder staying on as the long-term head coach could become the most likely scenario.
