Rio Ferdinand names three things Manchester United MUST give Rúben Amorim this summer

Rio Ferdinand has demanded that Manchester United must hand Rúben Amorim three things this summer if he is to succeed at the Old Trafford club.
Rúben Amorim’s first three months at Manchester United have been anything but smooth since taking over from Erik ten Hag.
Appointed in mid-November with United struggling in 13th place in the Premier League and managing just one win in the Europa League, the 40-year-old set out to rebuild a club in need of direction.
There have been promising moments, including impressive away victories over Arsenal and Manchester City, but inconsistency remains a problem. Under Amorim, United have won 10 of their first 21 matches, losing nine and drawing two.
Off the pitch, the challenges have been just as demanding. Three senior attackers departed on loan during the winter transfer window without replacements arriving, while Lisandro Martínez and Amad will miss the rest of the season with injuries and Kobbie Mainoo out for at least six weeks.
However, there have been positives. United strengthened at left wing-back with the signing of Patrick Dorgu, while 18-year-old centre-back Ayden Heaven has arrived as a promising prospect for the future.
Three things United must give Amorim
While Amorim has struggled to find any level of good form at the club, the almost universal opinion is that he has a free pass for the rest of this season, and that once he starts work in the summer he will be able to properly prepare his squad.
This is also something former United centre-back Rio Ferdinand believes, too. Speaking on his podcast, he explained that the club must give him a good pre-season, a new set of players this summer, and trust that he will be able to deliver on the club’s long-term goals.
“You kind of got to write this season off,” Ferdinand said. “As long as as long as Man United don’t get relegated, Amorim has to be in the hot seat still, has to be there, has to be given time, has to [be given] patience in an attempt to try and build the confidence within this team.
“I think he definitely needs… you have to give him a pre-season with the team, have to give him another chance to bring some more players in.
“We’ve seen a huge shift in the approach to the transfer window. We were going out and buying superstars all the time for huge inflated prices in the previous regime, whereas now it’s a bit more of a shift towards buying potential and talent for tomorrow rather than today.
“When you look at it you’re thinking surely you want to win today, but we’ve been trying to do that [for years] and I think that’s where I think the patience should lie.
“We’ve been calling out for somebody to come in and just change the dial and make a big shift in the way that we play, the identity of the football team, but also the fortunes of the football club from a footballing point of view.
“And if you think you’re going to do that by just chopping and changing managers and not trusting them and believing in them over a long period of time and be willing to go through some hurt at the beginning, [you won’t].”
