Rio Ferdinand names Senne Lammens among Manchester United’s three best players this season, including “complete” star

Rio Ferdinand has singled out Senne Lammens as one of three stars who have been Manchester United’s best players so far this season.

Manchester United’s summer transfer window saw Rúben Amorim’s side invest over £200 million in four new first-team arrivals, all of whom have pushed their way into the head coach’s preferred starting lineup.

Benjamin ŠeškoBryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha now lead United’s attack, while Senne Lammens has taken over as first-choice goalkeeper following André Onana’s loan move to Turkey.

In the Premier League table, United are seventh on 18 points, level with Tottenham in fifth, sitting just one point behind Sunderland in fourth and two behind third-placed Chelsea.

The team have been beaten only once in their last seven league outings, although consecutive 2-2 draws against Nottingham Forest and Tottenham have left supporters thinking more was possible.

Mbeumo has been a joke this season

While the results have both positives and negatives that can be taken into account, one player who, according to United legend Rio Ferdinand, has been brilliant is the £65 million signing of Mbeumo.

“Mbeumo has been a joke,” Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel. “He’s really stepped in there and become a mainstay.

“He’s someone who can give you two or three seconds on the ball to relieve pressure. He can score important goals and create chances.

“I saw Thomas Frank’s comments about him the other day, and Mbeumo nearly being a complete winger.

“I think by the end of this season, he’ll be one of the most complete wingers in the Premier League because he can do everything. He just needs to consistently do it in a United shirt.”

Lammens and De Ligt have been fantastic

Further, Ferdinand explained that he feels there have been two other standout players this season in Lammens and Matthijs de Ligt, both of whom have been crucial in Amorim’s current unbeaten run.

“I don’t think it’s one man,” Ferdinand continued. “It can’t be down to one man. I think Matthijs de Ligt has been our best defender this season; he’s been outstanding for us.

“He’s even adding goals – with the last-minute one the other day [vs Tottenham].

“His pressing, his assertiveness and his willingness to go into foreign areas up the pitch to defend at the right times has been good. Clearing out of the box, he has been brilliant.

“[And] the goalkeeper [Lammens]. You can’t talk about anyone being our most important player without mentioning the goalkeeper.

“It’s no coincidence we’ve had an upturn in form. We’ve got a goalkeeper that it seems all the players trust.”
