Rio Ferdinand has revealed the four players he would sell from Manchester United this summer, explaining he is unsure about a further two.

Manchester United are facing a crucial summer as they look to bolster their squad while complying with profit and sustainability regulations (PSR). The club’s need to raise funds through player sales is driven by a combination of PSR constraints and the desire to reinvest in the squad to become competitive at the highest level once again.

United’s strategy will involve offloading several fringe players who have not been central to Erik ten Hag‘s plans. Players such as Donny van de Beek, Jadon Sancho, and Scott McTominay are all potential candidates for departure.

Maguire, once the world’s most expensive defender, has struggled to maintain a starting position when the full squad is fit and could attract interest from other Premier League clubs. Van de Beek, who has had no impact since his arrival from Ajax in 2020, will seek a move to revive his career elsewhere.

Additionally, the club will consider selling younger talents who have market value but have not yet broken into the first team or failed to make significant enough of an impact, such as Alvaro Fernandez’s recent departure to Benfica. The sales of these players would generate important funds as they would be classed as a pure profit.

Rio Ferdinand, the legendary Manchester United defender, has explained in an interview with the Daily Mail that he would make sure United sell four players this summer.

In a quick-fire question format, Ferdinand explained that United must look to sell Harry Maguire, Sancho, Christian Eriksen, and Van de Beek in the upcoming window.

While Eriksen and Van de Beek are unlikely to warrant high fees, both Sancho and Maguire’s sales would hand United a lot of cash. United are said to want at least £40 million for Sancho following his positive form on loan at Borussia Dortmund, while it is thought that Maguire is valued at around £30 million.

Ferdinand also explained that he is unsure of two other players, refusing to say the club should keep them: Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood.

Greenwood will be sold this summer following his suspension from United after charges from the CPS, and when the case was dropped, he travelled on loan to Getafe. He is now subject to intense interest from Juventus, and a deal could be completed in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, Rashford will almost certainly stay at United. After a poor season, some have floated the idea of cashing in on the forward, but he is determined to stay and fix his issues at United.
