Rio Ferdinand criticised one of Ruben Amorim’s tactical decisions during Manchester United’s defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final.
Manchester United produced a pathetic display in the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur which ends their season on an all-time low.
Going behind in the first half after pathetic defending was not a huge surprise. United have been doing that all season.
But the shocking part was United’s lack of treat going forward. Amad looked bright in the first half but worse in the second period.
Bruno Fernandes has a horrible performance and no one picked up the creative slack of the Portuguese captain.
United failed to score across 90 minutes against the only side in the Premier League who can rival them in tragic defending. It is unbelievable.
Ferdinand could not believe Amorim decision
Ruben Amorim decided against starting Alejandro Garnacho in this game and there was no threat in behind the Spurs backline.
Rio Ferdinand was shocked at the decision, and believes it was a huge issue from the Portuguese head coach in the final.
“That’s one question mark I had with the selection today for Man United,” the club legend said after full-time on TNT Sports.
“We didn’t have anybody running in behind and Garnacho has done that all season when he has played.
“Whether you like him or not in terms of his finishing and end product, he does give you that threat which stretches teams and at no point in this game were Spurs stretched in that sense.”
Garnacho would’ve been better from the star
Garnacho made an immediate impact off the bench and had a dangerous shot when cutting inside soon after he arrived on the pitch.
But Spurs went into a back five and sat deep, which is not where he thrives. There was no space to run into for the Argentine.
Mount had a good performance off the bench in the second-leg of the semi-final but didn’t do much on the night in Bilbao.
Hindsight is brilliant, of course, but it feels like Garnacho could have had a better impact than the Englishman. Although, the attack simply wasn’t good enough across the board.
