Rio Ferdinand believes “ridiculous” star still has Manchester United future despite Rúben Amorim transfer agreement

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has expressed his thoughts on the future of a Manchester United winger following the expected arrival of Matheus Cunha.

Rúben Amorim’s first season at Manchester United has been anything but smooth. The Portuguese manager has faced numerous challenges, with inconsistent performances and mounting pressure taking their toll on the squad.

As the summer approaches, a significant overhaul is expected. Amorim is likely to oversee a busy transfer window, aiming to reshape the team in line with his vision and improve results going forward.

Despite the difficulties, United have a golden opportunity to end the season on a high note. They are set to face Tottenham in the Europa League final, a match that could provide Amorim with a much-needed sense of achievement.

While new arrivals are anticipated, attention also turns to the current squad. Several players may be heading for the exit, as United evaluate who fits into Amorim’s long-term plans and who does not.

Ferdinand still thinks Garnacho has a future at United

Matheus Cunha’s £62.5 million transfer from Wolves may be making headlines, but club legend Rio Ferdinand believes Alejandro Garnacho still has a big role at United, regardless of constant exit rumours.

Speaking on his Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, the United legend admitted he’s reversed his stance on the Argentine talent.

“The more I see the team, the more he looks like he’s capable of learning and playing,” Ferdinand explained. “If someone gets Garnacho for £50-60 million, they’ve got a bargain.

“He’s doing ridiculously well now at United for a young kid, and if you look at his numbers, they are really good for a kid, and he is only going to get better.”

Garnacho has been one of the names consistently mentioned regarding leaving Old Trafford. This was in an attempt to bring funds together for summer recruitment after Sir Jim Ratcliffe claimed United were working off a slim budget prior to multiple failed investments.

Garnacho’s improvement clear to see

Despite being at the helm for a month, Amorim boldly decided to drop Marcus Rashford and Garnacho for a Manchester derby in December for selection reasons that were not injury-related.

Fans saw the decision as rightful following a period of poor performances and lack of commitment from the duo, and United went on to win the derby 2-1.

This saga ultimately led to Rashford being forced out of the team and having to search for a loan deal in January to gain game time. The winger joined Aston Villa and has since returned to his old form, although he suffered a hamstring injury that ruled him out for the season.

For Garnacho, on the other hand, this led to transfer rumours. It was believed Manchester United was set to offload one of their academy graduates, either Kobbie Mainoo or Garnacho, to deliver funds for a summer rebuild.

Post January, and it would be unfair to say Garnacho has returned to his best following United’s awful season, but the Argentine has improved and despite wing backs being favoured over wingers in Amorim’s set up, Garnacho has shown his adaptability and maturity in his ability to play in a number of areas making him a key player in the squad.
