Rio Ferdinand showed no hesitation when asked which Manchester United players he thinks deserve more prominent roles under Ruben Amorim.

Manchester United appointed Ruben Amorim in November, and he has since overseen 14 matches during a demanding winter schedule.

There have been some standout moments of promise, including impressive victories over Arsenal and Manchester City.

However, the team has also faced challenging times, with United suffering six defeats under the Portuguese coach’s leadership so far.

Amorim has been able to learn important things about his players in that time and he now seems closer to knowing what his strongest team is.

Ferdinand names United duo who deserve more prominent roles under Amorim

Some players have not managed to properly prove themselves under the new boss, partly due to injuries, and will hope that they can get some consistent game-time soon.

Former United defender Rio Ferdinand was asked by TNT Sports which United players he would like to see play more prominently under Amorim.

Leny Yoro,” the ex-United defender responded without hesitation. “I think he’s got potential, they paid big money for him as a young kid.

“He’s showed some great moments when he’s come on and played sporadically at the moment.

“He’s been hampered with injuries and if he clean run [of games], Mason Mount as well, getting a clean run of health to show who he is as well.

“So those two probably stand out for me at the minute.”

Yoro and Mount fit Amorim’s system perfectly

Yoro and Mount are both players who seem perfect for the system Amorim uses, but as Ferdinand mentioned, neither have managed to get much of a chance so far.

The French defender’s reintegration has been taken slowly after he recently came back from injury. He has mostly been featuring off the bench but also impressing.

Playing as a wide centre-back in a back three requires athleticism and Yoro has it in abundance.

Meanwhile, Mount has suffered another upsetting injury setback after Amorim came in but it is well-known the head coach likes the player.

Mount excelled in a very similar system during his time under Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea, and Amorim seems to like the attributes he possesses.

For the midfielder, it is not really a question about whether he will be given chances, but if he can sustain the fitness to make the most of them.

Amorim will want to bring him back into the team once he is back from injury, but any more setbacks will make things a lot more difficult for the player.
