Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra completely agree about controversial Manchester United comments after Man City win

Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra are in complete agreement over some controversial comments after Manchester United’s dominant win over Manchester City.

Manchester United produced an impressive performance to claim a 2–0 win over Manchester City at Old Trafford in their Premier League clash.

From the opening minutes to the final whistle, United were in control, combining a strong defensive display with a consistent attacking presence under Michael Carrick.

The Reds found the back of the net five times during the contest, though three goals were ruled out for marginal offside decisions. Even so, finishes from Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu were enough to secure a vital and fully deserved three points.

Lisandro Martínez also stood out for United, delivering an assured defensive display and effectively nullifying Erling Haaland until the striker was withdrawn in the 80th minute.

Before he even stepped foot on the pitch, Martínez had been mocked by two United legends leading up to the game. Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt joked and smiled about how Erling Haaland would destroy the United defender.

Instead, it was the other way around, with Haaland producing a terrible performance and being hooked after 80 minutes.

Following on from the game, Patrice Evra posted on Martínez’s Instagram with a swipe towards Scholes and Butt. “People need to respect my warrior brother, thanks”, he replied, with a heart and flame emoji.

Rio Ferdinand then sent a similar message on his social media. “Expecting a few apologies from people after this…. Set up perfectly! Get in.”

Scholes and Butt will be speaking on their podcast this week and it will be interesting to see what they say about the situation.

Martínez responds to Scholes

Martínez has made his feelings clear on the punditry duo following on from the derby win as well, with journalists asking the Argentine about the criticism after the victory.

“I told him [Scholes] already, if he wants to say something to me, he can come to wherever he wants, to my house, wherever. I don’t care,” the defender explained.

“When you see them here face-to-face, no one says anything in your face.”

Martínez was then asked whether their criticism gives him extra motivation. “No. Nothing,” he replied. “It doesn’t give me anything. My motivation is my family. That’s it.”
