Revealed: Will Diego Leon be on Manchester United’s pre-season tour as official start date revealed

Manchester United will officially complete the signing of Paraguayan prospect Diego Leon this summer after agreeing a deal during the January transfer window.

Diego Leon will become the latest addition at Manchester United which underpins the new strategy at the club under INEOS leadership.

The likes of Sekou Kone, Ayden Heaven and Chido Obi have all moved to Old Trafford as young players with minimal price tags but tons of potential.

Heaven and Obi have already emerged as regulars under Ruben Amorim while Kone made a major impression on United fans during his unofficial first-team debut in a post-season friendly earlier this week.

Leon will join from Cerro Porteño for around £3 million after completing his medical and visiting Carrington earlier this year. He was unable to move to the club immediately as he was still 17 at the time.

When will Leon will officially join United?

Once Leon completed his medical at United, he returned to Paraguay to continue the season with Cerro Porteño and has been able to play more first-team football.

It has been revealed by South American journalist Uriel Lugt that United’s new signing will arrive in England in the coming weeks.

He reported that Leon is expected to travel to England in the second week of June, which gives him a couple of weeks to settle into life in Manchester before pre-season starts.

United are currently on their post-season tour of Asia but will likely kickstart their pre-season preparations towards the beginning of July.

Will Leon be included on United’s pre-season tour?

With the arrival of Leon at Carrington soon, there are some question marks around whether the “great” starlet will appear on the club’s pre-season tour.

United have Patrick Dorgu, Harry Amass and Luke Shaw as options on the left wingback at the moment. Amass has impressed since coming into the first-team and is almost guaranteed to travel to the United States.

It has been reported by ManchesterWorld that the signing of Leon is viewed as a first-team one, similar to Heaven when he arrived at the club at the beginning of the year.

United have a pre-season fixture against Leeds in Sweden before their official tour begins and Leon could be tested out in that game to help see where his level is at.

Amorim will likely assess the teenager in the opening weeks of pre-season and potentially in that game before deciding if he will travel on the tour.

But given that he was tailor picked for the system used under the Portuguese coach, it would be no surprise if he’s given the opportunity to join the squad over the summer.
