Ruben Amorim was disappointed as Manchester United lost 2-0 in the Premier League in their Boxing Day clash against Wolves.

Manchester United suffered their fourth loss in their last five Premier League matches, falling to Wolves on Boxing Day.

Despite dominating possession in the first half, the Reds struggled to threaten Vitor Pereira’s side, who displayed greater energy and physicality throughout the game.

United’s task became even harder when Bruno Fernandes received a second yellow card and was sent off early in the second half.

The breakthrough for the hosts came when Matheus Cunha scored directly from a corner, marking the second time in a week United conceded in this manner, following Son Heung-min’s similar goal last Thursday.

In stoppage time, Wolves sealed their victory. Alejandro Garnacho lost the ball on the left wing, allowing Cunha to lead a counter-attack and assist Hee-Chan Hwang for a simple finish.

Amorim ‘said nothing’ to United players in dressing room

Amorim was clearly disappointed at full-time, with the same mistakes from his players being made again.

It is an uphill battle but one that he predicted would come even when fans and journalists were excited after winning 4-0 against Everton.

According to Manchester Evening News journalist Steven Railston, the United boss ‘said nothing’ to his players in the dressing room after the game, suggesting his anger at the performance and result.

Why Amorim doesn’t hold team talks after games

However, this is actually something that Amorim does on a regular basis after games, even from his time at Sporting.

A report from ESPN has explained that the 39-year-old doesn’t hold traditional post-match team talks and instead prefers to invite the players to hold their own debrief.

Amorim addresses the team the following day, giving him a chance to further analyse the game and deliver a clear assessment without the emotions that come shortly after full-time.

It was explained that this is something the head coach does as he remembers what he liked and disliked as a player, which has allowed him to shape his management techniques.

Perhaps fans would have liked the answer to be that Amorim did not want to address the players because of their performance, but it seems he already knew the challenge on his hands and won’t be hugely surprised.
