Revealed: Why Ruben Amorim dropped Alejandro Garnacho & full assessment on Man Utd star
The reason behind Ruben Amorim dropping Alejandro Garnacho against Manchester City has been revealed, alongside his full assessment of the Manchester United starlet.
Both Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho were dropped for Manchester United’s derby day victory against Manchester City on the weekend.
Much of the attention after the game came back to Rashford, who is reportedly up for sale in the January transfer window.
Yet, the 20-year-old Argentine was also absent following a spell on disappointing form and rumours surrounding him being a possible leak for team news.
It has been explained by Sky Sports that both players were left out by Ruben Amorim due to the head coach being ‘unimpressed’ by their application on the training ground and their general demeanour at Carrington.
However, the report added that it has been noted that Garnacho is not a serial offender, nor is he considered a senior member of the team who should be setting an example.
It was further stated that while Amorim has made it clear no dip in effort will be tolerated, the feeling is that Garnacho hasn’t run out of chances to prove himself.
Many reports from the summer considered the Argentine as an ‘untouchable’ during the transfer window. Meanwhile, there have always been some reports suggesting a possible exit for Rashford.
Speaking after the game on Sunday, Amorim addressed his decision to drop both of the attackers against Pep Guardiola’s side.
“It is important to say why. It was not a disciplinary thing – next week, next game, new life,” the 39-year-old boss began.
“They are fighting for the places but for me it’s important for me the performance in training, the performance in game, the way you dress, the way you eat, the way you engage with the team-mates, the way you push your team-mates.
“Everything is important in our context in the beginning of changing a lot of things, when people in our club are losing their jobs, we have to put the standards really high.
“For that, they have to fight for the place in the team and today the team proved that we can leave anyone outside the squad. You can manage to win if we play together.”
