Manchester United could look into selling the naming rights for their new stadium and one of their existing sponsors in interested in the idea.

On Tuesday morning, Manchester United confirmed their plans to build a brand-new 100,000-seater stadium instead of upgrading Old Trafford.

Following months of discussions, the club’s ‘Old Trafford Regeneration Task Force’ assessed the pros and cons before concluding that a new stadium was the best option.

This means Old Trafford will eventually be demolished, with the new venue expected to be completed by 2030.

The announcement has sparked mixed reactions among United supporters, with many opposing the idea of tearing down the historic Theatre of Dreams. Others are impressed by the concept designs posted on social media.

Berrada speaks on United stadium naming rights

One of the most talked about aspects of acquiring a new stadium is the name it will be called and whether it will include a sponsorship in the title like many other modern-day squads – Barcelona’s ground is currently known as the Spotify Camp Nou.

That is a prospect that supporters are not extremely fond of but it may well end up being a possibility, with the club open to the idea.

United’s CEO Omar Berrada has said that “it’s all on the table” in regards to brands having potential partnerships for the new stadium, which is not guaranteed to keep the name ‘Old Trafford’.

“It’s all on the table. We think it is quite a unique opportunity in the world of football for such an iconic stadium of the size that we’re talking about to be built. So we think we will have an enormous amount of partnership opportunities,” he said, as per MEN.

“Ultimately, we like brands that can help us to improve the fan experience within the stadium. Whether that integration comes with the stadium naming rights opportunity or not, it needs to be discussed.

“It’s too early to say at this stage (if Old Trafford will remain in the name). What we do know is that there is already an enormous amount of interest in big brands wanting to associate their brands with ours and the new stadium.

“You can have a sponsor for the fan zone and sponsors for certain hospitality areas.”

United sponsor open to acquiring new stadium naming rights

One of the potential options for the stadium naming rights is United’s existing partner Snapdragon, who are the club’s shirt sponsor.

United have visited the Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego in their most two recent pre-season tours and are set to play there for a third consecutive year this coming summer.

It was reported by the Manchester Evening News that Snapdragon are open to acquiring the naming rights of the club’s new stadium and their chief marketing officer, Don McGuire, spoke about the prospect last summer.

“Old Trafford is Old Trafford, it should always be Old Trafford,” McGuire said. “But if there is a brand attached to that in someway shape or form, powered by someone, an “at” or whatever…

“This is Snapdragon Stadium at Bashor Field. We are working very closely with the team on the reimagination of Old Trafford from a technology and innovation standpoint. And Carrington. Both.

“So if that leads to something bigger, where it would make sense for us to go even bigger – this (shirt sponsor) is pretty big by the way, not inexpensive – but if it makes sense we are always looking out for opportunities.”
