According to reports, it can be revealed new summer edition Benjamin Šeško has been given a goal target for the season to hit, and it is a surprising number.
Following another successful campaign with RB Leipzig, which saw him score 13 Bundesliga goals and 21 in all competitions, Benjamin Šeško was able to earn himself a move to Manchester United in the summer for a fee of £74 million following a battle with Newcastle United for the Slovenian’s signature.
Since his arrival in Manchester, Šesko has been able to impress, showing many glimpses of potential and how truly good of a striker he could grow to become.
Recording two goals and one assist in six Premier League starts, it is a decent return for a young player who is new to the league, but one that the player will definitely want to build on and add to.
This natural desire for goals has now also been fuelled by a reported goal target the Slovenian has been tasked with hitting by the end of the season, and it is a challenging one.
Šeško’s reported goal target
These reports of a rumoured goal target for Šeško have come from renowned transfer journalist Ben Jacobs, who made these claims while speaking to The United Stand.
“Sources told me they set him a target at the beginning of the season that was actually quite high!”, Jacobs explained before adding that United told Šeško to “go and better your best highest Bundesliga total for RB Leipzig.”
With Šeško’s highest Bundesliga tally sitting at 14, the United striker would have to score 13 from the remaining 28 fixtures, which would be a challenge, but nothing the Slovenian isn’t capable of.
Following his assist against Brighton, it is evident that Šeško will also be able to help provide goals as well as just scoring them, with the striker showing multiple glimpses of clean link up play, which for a player of his stature is a rare and valuable trait to have, and will certainly not go to waste in Ruben Amorim’s side with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo either side of him.
Performing in the face of criticism
Following his performance against Forest away, where he didn’t put in his best performance, Benjamin Šeško has since faced criticism in the media from former United and recent Premier League Hall of Fame inductee Gary Neville.
When speaking on NBC Sports, Neville claimed that “the jury’s still out” on Šeško, claiming he is “well off it compared to the other summer signings that United made up front in Cunha and Mbeumo.”, and then going on to say the striker looked “awkward”.

These quotes have received backlash online from United fans, with Neville’s quotes generally considered to be harsh and somewhat unfair considering the young age of the player, and needing time to adapt, especially when compared to Cunha and Mbeumo, who are older and already have considerable Premier League experience under their belts.
Despite the criticism, Šeško has been able to put in several promising performances throughout the season so far, which should leave manager Rúben Amorim and United fans alike confident about the striker’s future, with him showing all the ability needed to be a top-class centre forward at United.
