Ruben Amorim has explained why one of his Manchester United players has been important to the club’s improved form.
Manchester United had a rocky start to the Premier League season but have managed to turn things around in recent weeks.
Ruben Amorim’s side are currently five games unbeaten and that run has included wins over Liverpool, Brighton and Sunderland.
The Reds have altered their approach in these games, which has earned Amorim some praise, but the run of form has also coincided with Senne Lammens coming into the team.
Lammens was signed in the summer but did not immediately come into the team, with Altay Bayındır playing from the start of the season.
But the 23-year-old was introduced against Sunderland and immediately impressed. He has been between the sticks in all of United’s last five games.
Amorim explains why United star is ‘important’ to improved form
Lammens has not been out of this world since arriving at Old Trafford but instead simply provided a calmer head at the back for United.
That has helped a team that has so often looked nervous when in defensive moments and Amorim believes that Lammens has helped change this.
“He is still really shy,” Amorim said when asked about the goalkeeper on Sky Sports. “He’s really composed but you can see sometimes you have a player that is different inside the pitch, Senne is completely the same.
“He brings a little bit of this character to the game and that helps the team in this moment. He brings a new calm to the team and that is really important, especially in our moment.”
Lammens will make mistakes
As mentioned previously, Lammens has not been incredible in his first games at United but that isn’t always what you need from your goalkeeper.
He is going about his work quietly but United fans are noticing it after experiencing so many troubles with Bayındır or André Onana between the sticks.
Mistakes will come for Lammens. He had a moment where he miscontrolled a backpass against Tottenham and awarded a cheap corner – that could have easily been a goal if the pass was angled differently.
But as Amorim mentions, the Belgian has a calming nature and it doesn’t seem like one mistake will ruin his confidence or form. That is exactly what is needed at Old Trafford.
