“Really close…” – Fabrizio Romano gives positive Man United update on ‘unstoppable’ star
Fabrizio Romano has provided a positive Manchester United update on one ‘unstoppable’ star this week.
Manchester United are currently in dire form during the hectic winter schedule and have won just once in their last five games.
Ruben Amorim has admitted that the job at hand has been more demanding than he anticipated, having had just four full training sessions to introduce his system.
It is clear that the Reds need new signings to support the head coach, but with limited funds available, players will need to be sold to enable any transfers in January.
For now, it appears that the current playing squad will need to step up. At least one player has been doing that so far, with Amad Diallo standing out.
The Ivorian has been one of United’s best players this season, playing at right wingback and in the no.10 position for Amorim. Bruno Fernandes described his Manchester Derby performance as ‘unstoppable’.
Amad has made 27 appearances so far this season. He has five goals and seven assists during that period.
Romano delivers update on Amad contract
The 22-year-old also has his current contract at United running out at the end of the season, and the club are not planning to extend his existing deal, instead opting to agree new terms with the player.
Amorim claimed that the player is ‘near’ to signing that new contract and Fabrizio Romano has since provided further updates on the situation.
The Italian journalist has said that an agreement is ‘really close’ between the player and club, with details about bonuses needing to be ironed out.
“For the announcement, I don’t know. But in terms of the agreement, I think it’s going to be something happening soon. For Amad Diallo, the agreement is really close,” he told GiveMeSport.
“They still need to discuss some details about the bonuses and everything, because it’s going to be an important contract for Amad.
“The discussion is ongoing, but everything is under control with Amad. He’s very happy at the club. He knows Amorim and the club trust him, so I think everything is absolutely under control.”
Maguire contract extension activated
While Amad is getting an entire new contract, it has been confirmed that his teammate Harry Maguire will have the 12 month extension activated in his current £190,000-a-week contract.
“Harry Maguire we are going to trigger our option,” Amorim explained during his pre-match press conference on Friday.
“I spoke with him [Harry] this morning and I told him he has to improve on the pitch, we need him a lot.
“Also, he has to improve as a leader. We all know the situation that he had here but we need him a lot in this moment, so we are going to trigger, happily, the option for him.”
