Manchester United could allow Antony to leave the club on loan in the January transfer window, with Real Betis interested in a deal.

Antony joined Manchester United in the summer of 2022 for a hefty £85 million fee, as Erik ten Hag prioritised reuniting with his former Ajax star.

The Brazilian winger made a strong start to his United career, scoring in each of his first three Premier League games, including a debut goal in a 3-1 victory over Arsenal.

However, Antony’s form quickly declined, with inconsistent performances and limited impact in the attacking third.

Since those initial matches, he has managed only nine goals and five assists in 91 appearances for the club.

Now, it has been revealed that both the club and player are open to a potential departure during the January transfer window, either on a permanent deal or loan.

Betis inform United of desired Antony wage structure

Real Betis appear to be a potential destination for Antony to spend the rest of the season at after reports emerged that they were interested in signing him on loan.

Fabrizio Romano has detailed that the Spanish outfit also tried to sign the Brazilian winger in the most recent transfer window.

Now, the Italy journalist explains that the key issue for any agreement comes down to the salary split, with Betis wanting United to cover at least 50 per cent of his current £200,000-a-week salary.

“It’s a possibility for Antony to leave,” Romano explained on GiveMeSport. “Real Betis already tried to sign him last summer, but the real issue is the salary.

“It could only be possible if Man United cover more than 50% of the salary.”

Antony loan is best for him and United

Antony’s transfer value is currently at an all-time low, raising uncertainty about how much Manchester United could recoup from a potential sale.

A loan move might be the most practical solution for both the club and the player. It would offer Antony more playing time and, if he performs well, could also boost his market value.

The main concern, however, is rumours surrounding the futures of Joshua Zirkzee and Marcus Rashford, who might also depart in January.

United may be wary of allowing Antony to leave before any replacements come in, with Amorim’s frontline already weak in depth.
