Real Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini has provided an update on the transfer saga surrounding Antony and sent a dig to Manchester United.
Manchester United are looking to build on their summer arrivals, having already added Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Diego Leon, and Benjamin Šeško to the squad.
To generate funds for additional signings, the club is prepared to part ways with several fringe players, with Antony among those up for sale.
The Brazilian winger, who joined United in 2022, failed to establish himself at Old Trafford but enjoyed a revival last season while on loan at Real Betis.
Although the Spanish side were tipped to make the move permanent, they have so far been unable to match United’s asking price and are instead pushing for a renewed loan agreement.
Pellegrini sends United dig after providing Antony update
Reports are suggesting that Antony is willing to wait until the final day of the transfer window to pressure United into accepting Betis’ loan proposal.
When asked about the potential transfer of Antony in the remaining days of the window, Manuel Pellegrini has assured reporters that the winger wants to return to the club.
With the deal taking much longer than expected, the ex-Manchester City boss has also sent a dig to United, suggesting that it is the English club’s fault that a deal is taking so long as they need to make a decision.
“I’ve not spoken with Antony. We all know that Antony was very good here, we want him with us, and Antony wants to return no doubt,” Pellegrini told reporters.
“But we also need the owner, which is Manchester United, to make a decision.”
Betis are trying to gaslight United
This transfer has felt like someone gaslighting you. United are not the one who needs to make a decision, it is Betis, who have failed to produce a respectable offer all summer.
We have seen them receive more than £50 million through sales but they are not prepared to reinvest that into a deal for the Brazilian.
Yes, the Reds would prefer to get rid of Antony but he went on a straight loan deal to the La Liga side last term and there’s no benefit to that same kind of move again.
He is also desperate to play in the World Cup next year. He will have no chance if he’s sitting on the bench at Old Trafford.
