“Not a good idea…” – Rasmus Højlund makes surprise comment after Manchester United injury return
Manchester United forward Rasmus Højlund has made a surprise comment after his recent return from injury.
Rasmus Højlund has had a mixed time at Manchester United since signing from Atalanta in the summer of 2023.
Højlund, 21, scored 16 goals during his debut campaign at Old Trafford – a respectable amount considering the situation of the team.
However, his biggest obstacle since the big-money move has been fitness, with the striker facing several injuries that have impacted his rhythm.
He did not start the season last year due to joining with a back injury and also missed the start of the 2024/25 campaign after a hamstring issue in pre-season.
After scoring in his first start back against FC Porto last week, Højlund will be hoping to find consistency in his game at United and with his national team Denmark.
He has been included in the squad for the latest international break and many would expect for him to want to play as much as possible now that he is back fit.
Yet, the 21-year-old is clearly wary of the issues that he has faced over the past year and admits that it would not be the best idea for him to play 90 minutes for his country on Saturday evening against Spain.
Hojlund told Danish reporters: “There is no point in rushing things and risking another injury. My body feels good again.
“I might be ready to play 90 minutes, but if I also use my brain a little bit, I don’t think 90 minutes on Saturday against Spain is a good idea.”
Hojlund also explained how time on the sideline has affected his body. “I’ve lost a little weight, but it doesn’t matter,” he added.
“I know there are some benefits to being a little lighter and some benefits to being a little heavier. I’m not focused on the scales. I’ve gotten used to the fact that my weight fluctuates a little bit.”
