Rasmus Højlund sends Man Utd 20-word message amid Michael Carrick success and Benjamin Šeško winner

Rasmus Højlund has recently sent a 20-word message to Manchester United amid Michael Carrick’s success.

Since the appointment of Michael Carrick as interim manager, Manchester United has enjoyed a period of success and consistency.

The club have won three games in a row with the performances matching the emphatic results, something that was not the case under Ruben Amorim.

The 3-2 win against Fulham put United back into fourth in the Premier League, only five points behind Aston Villa in third.

However, the Red Devils cannot afford to take liberties with Chelsea, who are only one point behind in fifth, and Liverpool, two points behind in sixth.

Højlund wishes United success

After signing for a total package of £72 million in 2023 at the age of 20, Rasmus Højlund enjoyed a successful first season, scoring 15 goals in all competitions.

The boyhood United fan stood out in the Champions League, scoring five goals in six games and ranking among the competition’s top scorers before United’s group-stage exit.

However, last season was frustrating not just for the club but especially for Højlund, who had huge spells without a goal and injuries, leading to only ten goals in all competitions, with only four in the league.

With the acquisition of Benjamin Sesko in the summer, demoting the Dane to third choice striker behind the Slovenian and Joshua Zirkzee, Napoli offered Højlund a chance to return to Serie A to rediscover his form on a loan with a buy option of £40 million.

Since joining Scott McTominay in Naples, the 23-year-old has scored 10 goals in 29 games in all competitions, winning the Italian Super Cup.

In a recent post by United wishing Højlund a happy birthday, the Dane replied with an encouraging message for the club.

He said, “Thank you all for the birthday wishes. Best of luck for the rest of the season. May the success continue.”

United’s attack is in a better place

It was unfortunate that Højlund’s time at United did not work out, as it was clear that, with him being a fan of the club, he only wanted the best for the team. However, his performances were no longer at the level for United, and it seemed his confidence had taken a dip.

His departure and the sale of Alejandro Garnacho coincided with the club doing a complete overhaul of the attack, bringing in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko, alongside Bruno Fernandes, Amad, Joshua Zirkzee and Patrick Dorgu already at the club.

Even under Amorim, United were a high-scoring team this season, and now, especially under Carrick, with players playing in their preferred positions, the club is scoring 8 goals in three games.

The difference between this season and last season could not be clearer. In the entirety of last season’s league campaign, the club scored 44 goals. This season, after 24 games, the revamped attack has already matched that tally and are third highest goal scorers in the league.
