Rasmus Højlund sends clear eight-word message after late winner for Man Utd vs Bournemouth

Manchester United forward Rasmus Højlund has shared his feelings on social media after rescuing his side with a last-minute equaliser against Bournemouth.

Rasmus Hojlund has struggled this season to say the least, with just four goals in 29 Premier League appearances this season for Manchester United.

He is not alone in his inconsistency in front of goal though, as the whole United team have only scored 39 goals in 34 games, conceding 47 in that time.

United’s front three of Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho and Joshua Zirkzee as a whole have also underperforming, combining for a total of 12 league goals this season.

Højlund sends message after Bournemouth goal

The 22-year-old striker bagged a late equaliser in United’s game against Bournemouth on the weekend, making the score 1-1 in the 96th minute.

He looked understandably elated when the goal went in and has since took to Instagram to share his feelings to fans. He wrote: “We wanted the win. but I needed that.”

For a while now, there have been calls for Ruben Amorim to bring in some reinforcements over the summer to bolster the United attack, with players such as Wolves’ Matheus Cunha being in the Red Devil’s spotlight in recent weeks.

As Hojlund suggests in his post, this goal was desperately needed, not only for the scor line, but for himself and his own confidence ahead of an important Europa League semi-final against Athletic Club.

Schmeichel shows support to Højlund

One person who didn’t write the young Dane off was legendary ex-goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel, who showed his support to Højlund in a recent interview.

“The boy is very, very talented, he’s like every other player in that squad – of course short of confidence,” Schmeichel told reporters last week.

“Everyone. This is the big thing. Once you don’t win games, the confidence levels drop so it’s been a tough one.

“I mean, he will come through it. He’s so strong mentally. He will come through it. He’s got really, really good support from his family as well and I know what he can do.

“Hopefully there’s a bit of success left in this team, and you bring that into your break, you come back in a different frame of mind, new season.

“I’m convinced that he’s still a very, very valuable player for Manchester United.”
