Rasmus Højlund failed to score for Manchester United in their 4-3 win over Liverpool but managed to show a trait that supporters have been craving for.

Højlund, 21, returned to the United lineup in a major boost for Erik ten Hag’s side. He missed the prior four games through injury.

The centre-forward looked sharp on his return to the team, barring an untimely slip before one shot in the first half. It is promising to see after he kicked into gear before his injury setback.

However, despite the incredible 4-3 win against Liverpool, the 21-year-old would have been disappointed to come off the pitch without a goal. He was replaced by Antony midway through the second half.

But United fans were pleased with the forward’s contribution, particularly one moment that they have been crying out for.

Perhaps one of the only major criticisms you could have against Højlund is that he has been too nice to his teammates. When passes haven’t come into him or have been delivered poorly, he has not made a fuss.

However, many supporters and even some ex-players were hoping that the Danish striker would start being more demanding of his teammates.

At Old Trafford on Sunday, Højlund made a run to the left of the Liverpool backline when United broke forward with the ball. Scott McTominay, who had an excellent game otherwise, played a very poor pass behind Højlund, and the chance was ruined.

But afterwards, ITV cameras picked up Højlund berating McTominay for the failed pass before quickly getting back on with the game.

It was what United fans were waiting for. Højlund has started scoring goals, and a more demanding nature will only help him more going forward.

He has scored 13 goals and registered two assists in 31 appearances so far this season.
