Rasmus Højlund has been handed the award for scoring the second-best goal across the 2024/25 Europa League campaign, as three Manchester United strikes feature in the top ten list.
Manchester United’s Europa League campaign ended in misery on Wednesday evening after Rúben Amorim’s men fell to a 1-0 loss against Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao.
The club’s run to the final of the competition was one of the most dramatic seen in recent memory, with the club initially climbing from 21st to 3rd in the league table.
United cruised past Real Sociedad in the round of 16 with a 5-2 aggregate win, thanks to a second-leg hat-trick from Bruno Fernandes.
The quarter-final clash with Lyon delivered chaos and drama in equal measure. Following a 2-2 draw in France, United raced to a 2-0 lead at Old Trafford, collapsed to 4-2 down, then pulled off an extraordinary comeback with quickfire goals from Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, and Harry Maguire.
In the semi-finals, United were ruthless, dispatching Athletic Club 3-0 away and 4-1 at home to seal their place in the final, ultimately falling short at the last hurdle and missing out on European silverawre and Champions Legaue qualification.
Three United strikes voted within top ten Europa League goals this season
Following the conclusion of the 2024/25 Europa League campaign, UEFA’s technical observer group have settled on what they believe to be the top ten goals scored in the competition this season.
Among the top ten, United featured three times, once for a goal in the league phase and two further knockout goals.
Rasmus Højlund has been awarded second place for the first of his two strikes against Bodo/Glimt in the league stage during a 3-2 win at Old Trafford, where he took a touch to cushion a cross from Noussair Mazraoui before finishing in style.
Mason Mount has also been handed a nod within the top ten list for his stunning goal from the halfway line in the second leg of United’s semi-final clash against Athletic Club, where he notched United’s fourth and his second of the night. This was voted as the eighth-best goal of the competition.
Finally, Mainoo has also been included in the top ten, with his fantastic curling effort against Olympique Lyonnais in the mad quarter-final second leg, coming in at ninth just behind Mount.
