Manchester United have issued three updates surrounding their injured players as Erik ten Hag prepares to face Liverpool in their final pre-season friendly.

Manchester United have completed four pre-season fixtures in the summer of 2024, with one more to go. They suffered a 1-0 defeat to Rosenborg but rebounded with a 2-0 victory over Rangers in Scotland, with goals from Amad Diallo and Joe Hugill. New signing Leny Yoro made his unofficial debut following his £52 million transfer from Lille.

In their first USA fixture, United faced Arsenal and lost 2-1 but gave fans something to cheer about by winning the pre-arranged penalty shootout 4-3. They then played Real Betis in San Diego, securing a thrilling 3-2 victory.

Next, United will face Liverpool at 00:30 BST on Sunday, 4 August, at the Williams-Brice Stadium in South Carolina, concluding their USA pre-season tour.

While United got through the Rosenborg and Rangers games unscathed, disaster struck against Arsenal as both Rasmus Højlund and Yoro were forced off through injuries in the first half.

In the following days, it was confirmed that Højlund would be out for six weeks with a hamstring issue, while Yoro was out for three months with a fractured metatarsal.

This was announced just an hour before the Betis tie, in which Marcus Rashford and Antony were then withdrawn in the second half due to further apparent injuries.

However, Ten Hag seemed optimistic after the tie that the injuries were not as serious, and both players were subsequently photoed in training gear on Friday afternoon, suggesting that they were not problems to be worried about.

Meanwhile, Ten Hag also issued a fresh update on left-back Tyrell Malacia, who has been out of action for over a year due to multiple knee operations.

“He is now in a good place,” Ten Hag told reporters earlier this week, “but he is not here because I only took players who could play games or be available for team training.

“He is not that far, but he is now in a progress situation. At a relatively short notice, he can again return into team training and then into team performance in games. I think it would be possible (for him to return) in two months.”

Diogo Dalot, Alejandro Garnacho, Altay Bayındır, and Bruno Fernandes all returned to training at Carrington on Friday. They had their first minutes of training with new signing Joshua Zirkzee.

Lisandro Martínez, Kobbie Mainoo, and Luke Shaw are expected to return to Carrington early next week.
