Former Manchester United defender Rafael Da Silva has explained why one star must be starting for Ruben Amorim’s team going forward.
Manchester United’s season has begun inconsistently, leaving them 10th in the Premier League table after seven games.
Losses to Arsenal, Manchester City, and Brentford have been offset by victories against Chelsea, Sunderland, and Burnley, while their encounter with Fulham ended all square.
Under Ruben Amorim, the Reds have shown flashes of quality mixed with areas of concern, though many fans believe the team’s development has not met expectations.
One of the biggest problems for the team seems to be the makeup of the midfield pairing after the club decided against making a signing in that position during the summer window.
Da Silva explains why one United star ‘must start’ for Amorim
Even though he has had a poor start to the season, Bruno Fernandes is essentially a guaranteed starter for United in the midfield so most of the attention is on his partner.
Casemiro has been the chosen player when he has been available and fellow Brazilian Rafael Da Silva believes that it the right choice and he should regularly be starting games for United.
“Casemiro is currently a starter for the Brazilian National Team with Ancelotti,” Da Silva said when speaking to Aceodds.com.
“So it’s like, he’s on the bench for Manchester United but a starter for the national team, which has happened with several players, but he’s a guy who’s 33 years old, right? He definitely still has a lot to offer in football.”
“He’s not a young guy anymore, obviously, and not the same player he was before, but I think he performs well with the team.
“It’s hard to single out a player playing well, but he certainly has what it takes to be a starter.”
Could be bad news for two stars
It does seem like Amorim’s preferred midfield pairing is Casemiro and Fernandes although that is bad news for two other players.
Manuel Ugarte was signed for big money last summer but already seems like a player who is not going to be at the club in the long-term, while Kobbie Mainoo is yet to start a Premier League game this season.
With the limited amount of matches this season, it is hard to know when Mainoo will start getting more game-time in Amorim’s team.
It will have to come at some point, however, otherwise there will undoubtably be problems in the January window as he looks for another loan departure.
