Manchester United loanee Radek Vitek has sent a clear message after winning his first Bristol City award, and Ruben Amorim will be listening closely.
Manchester United have been grappling with a goalkeeping dilemma for some time, with their recent Premier League and Carabao Cup outings underlining the issue.
Ruben Amorim has alternated between Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana in an effort to cut out the errors and inconsistency that have repeatedly undermined the team’s progress.
Dissatisfied with their current options, United spent much of the summer searching for a new goalkeeper and ultimately completed a deadline-day move for Senne Lammens in a deal worth around £18 million.
With their goalkeeping department now seemingly settled for the season, the club will also be monitoring the progress of Radek Vitek, who is spending the year on loan at Bristol City.
Vitek sends clear message after winning first Bristol City award
Vitek’s life at Bristol City couldn’t have started much better, with the goalkeeper saving a penalty in his unofficial debut before winning Man of the Match in his first competitive appearance.
After four Championship games, City remain unbeaten with two wins and two draws. Vitek produced another standout display in their recent 4-2 win over Hull City.
The United loanee’s performances have earned him his first major award at Ashton Gate, with Vitek being named Bristol City’s Player of the Month for August.
Reacting to this news, the 21-year-old wrote on social media: “Thank you to everyone who voted for me, I really appreciate it. Let’s keep the momentum going after international break.”
Bristol City face Sheffield Wednesday after the international break, where Vitek will likely face fellow United youngster Harry Amass after his own Championship move occurred on deadline day.
Amorim will be listening to Vitek
Amorim will be hoping that Lammens is a huge success at Old Trafford, but having a solid goalkeeping group is crucial.
David de Gea’s best years came when he had Sergio Romero behind him. Vitek could be that man to provide fierce competition at United between the sticks.
Amorim decided to overlook the youngster when assessing goalkeeping options for this season, but he will undoubtably be listening to Vitek’s words, and also keeping an eye on his progress in Bristol.
If the goalkeeper can keep up this level of performance, it feels likely that he will be offered a chance to impress next season.
