The Premier League has announced a Summer Series tournament in the United States this summer, with Manchester United set to face off against three other Premier League clubs during the competition.
Manchester United will be involved in this season’s Premier League summer series, with the tournament set to take place in the United States from July to August, coinciding with the start of the league season.
Ruben Amorim will be desperate for some tough games, as he bids to implement his style of play during his first pre-season with the club. Amorim joined United in November and has had to contend with two games a week since then, making it difficult for him to convey his message effectively in training.
United will face off against three other Premier League clubs during the tournament. All three clubs will face off against each other once.
Bournemouth, West Ham, Everton and, of course, Manchester United will be the three clubs facing off against each other, bidding to win the overall Premier League Summer Series trophy.
Premier League Summer Series – fixtures, fates, and rules
Manchester United will kick off the Summer Series on Sunday, 27th July against West Ham, with the game kicking off at 12 am UK time due to the time difference in America. The game will take place at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
The Reds will return four days later, at 2:30 a.m., to face Bournemouth at Soldier Field in Chicago. They will conclude their tournament against Everton on August 3rd at 10 p.m. at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
As per Sky Sports News, the rules are as follows. All three teams will play each other once. Each team is awarded three points for a win and one point for a draw. The team that has won the most number of points by the end of the tournament on August 3rd will be deemed the overall winner of the competition.
If two clubs have the same number of points, the winner will be decided by which club has the best goal difference.
If the goal difference is the same, the winner will be the one who has scored the most goals in the tournament overall.
If points cannot separate the clubs, the winner will be determined by goal difference or the number of goals scored. If the clubs are still tied, the winner will be the one with the better head-to-head record against the other. Every single game will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
A good chance to start the season strong
These games will be anything but friendly, particularly since it’s so close to the start of the new campaign. Teams will want to lay down a market, and United, in particular, will be eager to let clubs know they are not here to be beaten this season.
Amorim can begin to field his strongest teams in this game and start to get them fully match-ready for the new campaign.
Pre-season is vital for the Portuguese coach, as a bad one could spell a poor start to the season, which he cannot afford.
A trophy is always nice to win, regardless of whether it’s a preseason one, such as the Premier League Summer Series trophy.
