Premier League rivals set to ‘step up attempts’ to sign £50m Man Utd star, it can fund Carlos Baleba move

Manchester United’s Premier League rivals could be set to hand them a huge favour, as they look to ‘step up attempts’ to sign a £50 million star.

Manchester United’s transfer window so far has been almost entirely focused on attacking incomings and outgoings, as they look to make amends for last season.

Ruben Amorim’s side scored 44 goals as they finished 15th in the Premier League. The Red Devils were also unable to attain any silverware elsewhere, including a 1-0 loss in the Europa League final.

In an attempt to rebuild the forward line, Amorim has seen the incomings of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and, hopefully soon, Benjamin Sesko, whilst also seeing Marcus Rashford head to Barcelona on loan.

The winger departures shouldn’t stop there for United, as Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, and Jadon Sancho all seek new pastures. In Garnacho’s case, his future could now be looking clearer.

Chelsea step up Garnacho efforts

United’s league rivals, Chelsea, have had a strong interest in Garnacho since January, but are now looking to step up their efforts to sign the Argentine before the window slams shut, according to The Guardian.

The report also states that United’s want-away winger could be available for around £50million, althoug Chelsea are understood to be reluctant to pay that.

Enzo Maresca’s Blues have already brought in Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens and Willian Estevao to reinforce their attack, and look to be wanting Xavi Simons and Garnacho as well.

The 21-year-old winger’s departure from United has been a matter of time since the Europa League final loss to Tottenham, where a public feud in the media arose due to Garnacho’s limited playing time.

Garnacho’s exit to balance the books

As previously mentioned, the Red Devils are closing in on the signing of Sesko from RB Leipzig for a fee in excess of £70 million, which could bring an end to United’s summer spending.

It was widely reported ahead of the summer that Amorim’s side were going to struggle to spend unless they made significant sales, and now they look likely to spend over £200 million without making any notable sales.

Garnacho’s potential exit could be seen as a tremendous positive for the Reds as it would help them to balance the books ahead of the new campaign.

On top of this, the sale could potentially free up enough financial resources to help United reinforce other areas of their squad, such as the midfield, with links emerging that United want to sign Brighton’s Carlos Baleba.
