Premier League confirm match referee vs Brentford, he has never officiated Manchester United
The Premier League referee who will officiate Manchester United against Brentford has never officiated the Old Trafford team.
Manchester United are gearing up for their return to Premier League action after the international break, as Erik ten Hag prepares his squad for a key match against Brentford.
United’s start to the 2024/25 season has been rocky, with the club currently sitting 14th in the league and managing only draws in their first two Europa League fixtures.

This poor form has increased the pressure on Ten Hag, leading many fans to believe the Dutchman would be dismissed last week.
However, a draw against Aston Villa seems to have given him a lifeline, as the club’s hierarchy opted against making any changes. Ten Hag has a few days to assess his squad before deciding on his lineup for Brentford.
The Premier League has now confirmed the match officials for the fixture.
Confirmed officials
Sam Barrott (pictured below) will referee on Sunday afternoon at Villa Park. Barrott has officiated five Premier League matches this season, including Brentford’s 2-1 victory against Crystal Palace on the opening weekend. Over these five games, he has issued 32 yellow cards.
However, an extra piece of trivia that should be noted is Barrott has never officiated Manchester United in an official capacity, meaning this will be his maiden fixutre at Old Trafford.
Lee Betts and Steve Meredith will be on the sidelines as Barrott’s assistant referees during the game. Darren Bond has been handed the fourth official job, separating Erik ten Hag and Thomas Frank on Saturday afternoon.
Graham Scott has been appointed as the Video Assistant Referee. Sian Massey-Ellis will act as assistant VAR.
