The Premier League have confirmed the match officials for Manchester United’s clash against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.

United will be hoping to start 2024 in the Premier League well after winning their first game of the year against Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup.

Erik ten Hag’s men lost against Spurs earlier in the season away from home. It was a fixture which saw United generate big chances in the first-half, fail to take those chances, and then be punished.

This time around, United are still plagued by their lack of clinical nature. They should’ve won by at least four or five against Wigan. Ten Hag will need to see his players take their chances for a possible three points.

Back in the Premier League and back with VAR for United, though, after a refreshing change in their FA Cup tie at the DW Stadium.

The full officials’ list, including those operating the dreaded VAR, can be read below.

Match Referee

John Brooks will be taking charge of this Old Trafford fixture in what will be only the 36th Premier League game in his career.

He has taken charge of United five times, and the Reds have won all five – interestingly, without conceding a single goal in any of the four league clashes.

Brooks has had his own personal controversy in the VAR room but will be out on the pitch instead on Sunday.

Assistant Referees

The duo of Eddie Smart and Nick Greenhalgh will be flanking Brooks on the Old Trafford turf. They have a combined 302 top-flight fixtures under their belt, with the majority (256) coming from Smart.

Video Assistant Referees (VAR)

Chris Kavanagh will be manning the monitors for this clash, with Adam Nunn as his assistant.

Fourth Official

Tony Harrington will be placed in between Erik ten Hag and Ange Postecoglou on the touchline.
