Premier League confirm Man Utd referee vs Fulham as seven stars could miss clash

The Premier League have confirmed who will be officiating Manchester United’s upcoming clash against Fulham on Sunday afternoon at Old Trafford.

Michael Carrick will be aiming to maintain a positive atmosphere as Manchester United take on Fulham in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

The former England midfielder could hardly have wished for a better start to life as United head coach. A superb 2-0 victory over Manchester City was followed by an eye-catching 3-2 win against league leaders Arsenal, a result that caught many by surprise.

Going into the weekend’s fixtures, United had climbed into the top four, sitting one point ahead of fifth-placed Chelsea and two clear of Liverpool in sixth.

Fulham, however, are unlikely to make things straightforward. Marco Silva’s team have lost just once in their last five matches, recording three wins and a draw in that run, including a 2-1 triumph over Chelsea and a 2-2 draw with Liverpool.

John Brooks (pictured above) will be the referee on Sunday afternoon in Manchester. Brooks has officiated eight Premier League fixtures this season, as well as four in other domestic competitions and two Europa League ties.

Brooks has not officiated United this campaign, but did so on five occasions last season. Two came in wins against Everton and Southampton, while a 0-0 draw against City was played out alongside losses against Tottenham and Crystal Palace.

This season, Brooks has issued 30 yellow cards in the Premier League and 54 across all competitions. He has issued three red cards this season, two coming straight, and awarded six penalties, three being in the Premier League.

During the game, Simon Bennett and Mat Wilkes will serve as Brooks’s assistant referees. Darren England will be the fourth official on Sunday afternoon, separating Carrick and Silva.

James Bell has been appointed as the Video Assistant Referee. Eddie Smart will act as assistant VAR.

Seven players could miss United vs Fulham

As for injuries, Carrick will be missing both Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu and Matthijs de Ligt for the tie, due to hamstring and back injuries, respectively.

However, striker Joshua Zirkzee has returned to training and could be involved in his first squad since Carrick’s appointment earlier this month.

As for Fulham, striker Rodrigo Muniz and midfielder Sasa Lukic will miss the match, both due to thigh injuries. Meanwhile, Kenny Tete (thigh) and Samuel Chukwueze (personal) are doubts.

New signing Oscar Bobb was confirmed earlier this week, but the former Manchester City player may not feature as he builds his fitness and adapts to his new surroundings.
