Player Ratings: Southampton vs Manchester United (Premier League)

Manchester United won 3-0 against Southampton in their Premier League clash at St Mary’s Stadium.

It was a poor start to the game for The Reds, who were struggling to get a hold on the game away from home.

Southampton were doing well and got a penalty midway through the half after a sloppy Diogo Dalot tackle.

Fortunately, André Onana saved and Erik ten Hag’s side looked rejuvenated afterwards. Matthijs de Ligt and Marcus Rashford scored the goals to give United the lead going into the break.

A solid second half was topped off by Alejandro Garnacho scoring a third shortly after Jack Stephens was sent off for a dangerous tackle on the Argentine.

André Onana – 8/10

Some really confident moments before he stepped up for his team and saved a penalty which looked to kickstart the team’s performance.

Noussair Mazraoui – 7/10

A solid display but concerns about a potential injury

Matthijs de Ligt – 9/10

He had a very solid display in defence, making some important interceptions and scored a brilliant header.

Lisandro Martínez – 8.5/10

A really solid display with interceptions and some nice passes into midfield.

Diogo Dalot – 5/10

Torrid first half display. Southampton have been overloading his side and he hasn’t been able to deal with it. Fortunate that the penalty he gave away was saved. Much better in the second half.

Kobbie Mainoo – 5/10

Looks physically drained and a few mistakes on the ball showing that.

Christian Eriksen – 6/10

A decent game but you can see why people were concerned about him starting during pressured moments in the first half.

Amad Diallo – 8.5/10

Things happen when he gets on the ball. Assisted Rashford and created numerous chances.

Bruno Fernandes – 7.5/10

A great cross and assist for De Ligt. Decent otherwise.

Marcus Rashford – 7/10

A quiet start to the game but some good moments late on and then scored a great goal to double the lead. Decent second half.

Joshua Zirkzee – 7.5/10

Looks sharp on the ball, got on the end of a proper ‘striker’s chance’ but couldn’t divert past Ramsdale. Also denied late on in the game by a good block.
