Manchester United won 2-1 against West Ham in their first game of the Premier League Summer Series in New Jersey at the MetLife Stadium.
It was a quick start to the game from Manchester United, who have looked much fitter than their West Ham counterparts throughout.
Ayden Heaven showcased that kind of sharpness to pounce on a goalkeeping mistake and win a penalty, which Bruno Fernandes converted comfortably.
Ruben Amorim would have been extremely pleased with the intensity from his side throughout the opening 45 minutes and there was also plenty of promising moments on the ball.
That continued in the second half of the game and once again led to a goal, with Kobbie Mainoo winning the ball back high up, passing to Fernandes, who then lobbed the goalkeeper expertly.
The Hammers managed to get one back through Jarrad Bowen against the run of play after a quick break, but United managed to hold onto the result to win their first game of pre-season.
The United player ratings can be read below.
United player ratings vs West Ham
Altay Bayındır – 6/10
Didn’t have much to do.
Leny Yoro – 8.5/10
Very good. His passing was excellent and so comfortable.
Matthijs de Ligt – 8/10
Some very good defensive moments. Solid.
Ayden Heaven – 5/10
Very sharp to win the penalty but looked a little shaky in a couple moments afterwards. Maybe could have done better for Bowen’s goal.
Amad – 5/10
Not involved enough, want him to demand the ball more. Scored a goal but was ruled offside, it was very close.
Manuel Ugarte – 8/10
Extremely sharp in the middle. Done well.
Kobbie Mainoo – 8.5/10
Great on the ball, and looked sharp off it too. This is his best role.
Patrick Dorgu – 8.5/10
He looks like a man with a point to prove this season. One of the sharpest players and constantly on the move.
Bruno Fernandes – 8.5/10
He scores United’s first two goals of the campaign. One from the penalty spot and the other a brilliant lob. Good stuff.
Matheus Cunha – 7.5/10
Pressing was great and some nice touches. This kind of pitch doesn’t help those who like to drive with the ball at their feet but he grew into the game.
Rasmus Højlund – 7/10
He looked much sharper than we’ve become used to in the last 12 months.
