Manchester United won 2-0 against Sunderland in their Premier League clash at Old Trafford after two first-half goals secured the three points.
In a must-win game, it was a strong start from Manchester United and they got an early goal from Mason Mount, who finished expertly on the edge of the box.
Benjamin Šeško soon doubled the Reds’ advantage after a long throw-in from Diogo Dalot on the right side.
Sunderland were awarded a bizarre penalty on the turn of the half but the spot kick was ruled out after the referee was advised by VAR to review the incident on the pitch-side monitor.
The second half didn’t bring plenty of chances but the Reds looked comfortable as they secured their third win of the season.
The United player ratings can be read below.
United player ratings vs Sunderland
Senne Lammens – 8/10
We finally got to see the new goalkeeper and it’s confusing how it’s taken this long based on that display. He looks calm and composed while also providing good distribution from both feet. A couple of confident claims and also made two important saves.
Leny Yoro – 7/10
Brilliant underlap to win the throw-in for the second goal. The exact kind of attacking intent needed in that role. Solid all game.
Matthijs de Ligt – 8/10
It seemed like he won every single duel. Hugely important at the back.
Luke Shaw – 7/10
A good display on the left.
Amad – 8.5/10
A huge danger on the right flank and probably United’s best player. Good to see him playing like that after some difficult games.
Casemiro – 7/10
An experienced performance up until his silly booking late in the game.
Bruno Fernandes – 7/10
Much better from the captain. Still probably not as involved as he would like but done his business smartly in the middle.
Diogo Dalot – 6/10
Fell asleep at the back post in the opening minutes but the chance was missed. A nice long-throw to set up the second goal but he looked sloppy on the ball.
Bryan Mbeumo – 7.5/10
Great cross to assist the opener and worked tirelessly until he was replaced. Missed a reverse pass to Amad to create a good chance though.
Mason Mount – 8/10
Unreal touch and finish to open the scoring and was impressive in his all-round game.
Benjamin Šeško – 8/10
Brilliant anticipation to score the second of the game and his second for United. His energy was great and so was his ability on the ball.
Substitutes
Matheus Cunha – 6/10
Patrick Dorgu – 6/10
Kobbie Mainoo – 6/10
Manuel Ugarte – 6/10
Harry Maguire – 6/10
