Player Ratings: Manchester United 0-2 Newcastle (Premier League)

Manchester United were largely pathetic as they lost 2-0 in their final game of 2024 against Newcastle at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim will be ashamed of the way his team played in that first half and they were fortunate to only be two down.

The United players were better in the second half but simply not good enough to salvage anything from the game.

Can’t do too much about the goals.

Matthijs de Ligt – 4/10

Got spun on multiple occasions. Better in the second half.

Harry Maguire – 3.5/10

Let the most in-form striker in the Premier League slip in behind him with ease for the opener.

Lisandro Martínez – 1/10

Absolutely bullied for the first and second goals. Pathetic.

Noussair Mazraoui – 2/10

Horrid defending for both goals. He looked dead on his feet because there’s not good enough depth to give him a break. Slightly better in the second half.

Casemiro – 1/10

Not good enough in the middle. How many poor and awkward passes can one player make. Should have scored at the end of the first half. Disgraceful miss.

Christian Eriksen – 2/10

Anonymous for the most part. Weak. Looked like a little boy when trying to press the Newcastle players.

Diogo Dalot – 4/10

Not good enough.

Amad Diallo – 4/10

He has had to double up defensively with the struggling Mazraoui, some better moments in the second half.

Joshua Zirkzee – 1/10

It was a big call for Amorim to start him alongside Højlund and it went worse than anyone could have imagined. Very, very poor and hooked in the first-half.

Rasmus Højlund – 3/10

One good run in the first half but missed the chance. Battled throughout but looked second best.
