Player Ratings: Manchester United 5-4 Lyon (Europa League)

Manchester United just produced one of the most incredible performances in the history of European competition for all of the right and wrong reasons.

It’s quite difficult to describe what just happened in a football game between Manchester United and Lyon in the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

The only easy thing to say is that Ruben Amorim’s side have progressed to the semi-finals.

United were tremendous and took a two-goal lead and then it all went downhill and they found themselves 4-2 down with in the second half of extra-time despite Lyon being down to 10 men. It was all over.

Bruno Fernandes scored a penalty, Kobbie Mainoo netted a worldie and Harry Maguire smashed in the winner. Football, bloody hell.

The United player ratings can be read below.

United player ratings vs Lyon

André Onana – 7/10

Couldn’t actually do much about any of the goals and made some good saves.

Noussair Mazraoui – 8/10

Brilliant pass forward in the build-up to United’s opener but was subbed at the break.

Harry Maguire – 10/10

Set the standard with an early crunching tackle that was appreciated across the stadium and then scored a winning goal in the 121st minute while playing as a striker. Some things happened in between as well but they don’t really feel relevant enough.

Leny Yoro – 7/10

Brilliant first half, struggled when Lyon started dominating. Put his head on the line for the team.

Diogo Dalot – 7/10

He was doing okay in the first half and then managed to score a brilliant goal on the turn of half-time. Looked like one of the United players to collapse when things seemed lost.

Manuel Ugarte – 8/10

Drifted into the box well for his goal. Came off before extra time.

Casemiro – 10/10

Penalty win. Assist. Assist. All of United’s dramatic late goals were through the Brazilian.

Patrick Dorgu – 5/10

Mistakes on the ball.

Alejandro Garnacho – 6/10

Brilliant assist but then frustrated. He should have won United the game but maybe he was thinking about how entertaining the game would then become.

Bruno Fernandes – 8/10

The bottle to score that penalty. Not his best game but still helped drag United back.

Rasmus Højlund – 6/10

He done better than recently.

Substitutes

Luke Shaw – 5/10

Mason Mount – 7/10

Kobbie Mainoo – 10/10

Harry Amass – 7/10

Christian Eriksen – 7/10
