Player Ratings: Manchester United vs Brighton (Premier League)
Manchester United lost 3-1 against Brighton at Old Trafford Danny Welbeck, Pascel Gross and Joao Pedro scored for the visitors.
United were denied a Rasmus Hojlund debut goal on the turn of half-time as VAR ruled the goal out because the ball supposedly went out of play in the build-up.
Erik ten Hag’s side fell apart in the second half, however, and the manager’s decision to bring off Hojlund mid-way through the second half received loud boos across the stadium.
The player ratings can be read below.
Andre Onana – 5/10
Could probably have done more with the second and third goals despite horror defending all round. A couple late saves.
Diogo Dalot – 6/10
Quite good. Some great attacking moments and one of few who were solid defensively.
Victor Lindelof – 4/10
Couldn’t deal with the Brighon attack on several occasions.
Lisandro Martinez – 4/10
Mistakes made and was sent for the second goal.
Sergio Reguilon – 8/10
United’s best player on the pitch. A really energetic performance so far and some great link-up play and general attacking play.
Casemiro – 3/10
Lost his man for the first goal and was not there defensively. Neither was he good enough in possession to make up for it.
Christian Eriksen – 5/10
Solid first half. Just doesn’t have the energy to keep up in thatc role for an entire game.
Scott McTominay – 4/10
Solid start to the game in its frantic nature. Once the ball started getting played though he faded as he usually does in such games.
Bruno Fernandes – 5/10
A decent game.
Rasmus Hojlund – 7/10
Great movement and positioning to get into some dangerous positions and scored late on in the first-half but unfortunately VAR again came into the game to disallow it. His subsitution for Anthony Martial was booed loudly by the Old Trafford crowd and you can see why
Marcus Rashford – 6/10
Looked sharp most of the game and created almost all of United’s chances. However, his defensive workrate was poor and he made several poor decisions with Hojlund alongside him.
Subs:
Anthony Martial – 3/10
Did he come onto the pitch? Boos for the change justified.
Hannibal – 7/10
Deserves a chance next week. Good goal.
Alejandro Garnacho – N/A
Facundo Pellistri – N/A
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – N/A
