9/10 for Amad Diallo, 3/10 for another – Manchester United player ratings vs Man City (Premier League)
Full player ratings as Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United face Manchester City in the Premier League away from home on Sunday afternoon.
Manchester United have been facing Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon as Rúben Amorim chose not to select either Marcus Rashford or Alejandro Garnacho in the squad.
Those such as Mason Mount and Harry Maguire were provided starts after being on the bench during midweek as Amorim confirmed that he simply selected the XI he feels was best suited for the game.
The tie started with both sides looking to dominate possession, and Mount had to be withdrawn after playing less than 15 minutes due to injury.
Joško Gvardiol headed in the opening goal for City after Kevin de Bruyne’s deflected cross curled perfectly for him after an initial short corner.
United looked to dominate in the second half, but they failed to make much of their possession have meaning, with City able to keep them at bay for the most part. Bruno Fernandes had a fantastic chance with 10 minutes to play but failed to convert.
However, it was Amad Diallo who was able to produce a moment of magic, winning a penalty that Fernandes then converted with just five minutes to play. Then, queue some magic.
Lisandro Martínez played a blinding pass from defence to send Amad through again, who took the ball around Ederson and finished brilliantly to give United a 2-1 lead with just minutes to play.
The United player ratings can be read below.
Player ratings
André Onana – 6/10
Looked confident on the ball despite recent errors. Couldn’t do much about the goal, but didn’t have too many saves to make.
Harry Maguire – 7/10
Defended well in general, helped keep City’s attacking line mostly quiet playing at the centre of the back three, but
Matthijs de Ligt – 6/10
Similar to Maguire, helped Mazraoui deal with City’s wide threat. Had a few tussles with Haaland as well and did well.
Lisandro Martínez – 8/10
Was being targeted by Haaland but dealt with the striker well so far. It would have been a 6/10, but his outrageous assist for Amad’s winner must be recognised.
Noussair Mazraoui – 7/10
Had to deal with the relentless Doku, generally kept him quiet. Was starting to fade toward the final 10 minutes and was therefore substituted.
Manuel Ugarte – 7/10
Covered for Fernandes and Mainoo in midfield, felt a little slow on the ball during a time when United needed him to be sharp in possession. However, in the second half, he vastly improved.
Bruno Fernandes – 5.5/10
Started deep and played some good passes. Moved further forward due to Mount’s injury and got more involved in the second half but missed a brilliant chance to draw the sides level toward the end of the tie. However, he made up for it with a cooley taken penalty.
Diogo Dalot – 3/10
Multiple dodgy crosses in the opening minutes, and although he found a lot of space ahead of him, he failed to capitalise. Was the man marking Gvardiol for the opener. Quiet in the second half.
Amad Diallo – 9/10
Very involved during the opening stages, and looked United’s most potent on the ball. Strayed offside a few times, but in the second half he continued to terrorise City, eventually winning a penalty.
Then came his moment of brilliance as he secured all three points for the Reds, beautifully rounding Ederson before scoring the final goal in a thrilling end to the tie.
Mason Mount – N/A
Started well with some good passes and found space, but was forced off with an injury after 13 minutes. Such a shame.
Rasmus Højlund – 5/10
Did well in tussles with Diaz but has so far failed to get into the game too much. Needed to get the ball to feet more but failed to do, but should have won a penalty against Dias that was not given.
Substitutes
Kobbie Mainoo – 5/10
Coming on to replace Mount early in the tie, generally tried to get involved in the attack, but not much impact.
Leny Yoro – N/A
Antony – N/A
Joshua Zirkzee – N/A
