Manchester United lost 4-3 to Bayern Munich in their opening Champions League fixture this season after three late goals.

After a promising start, Erik ten Hag saw his team capitulate again with two goals conceded in a matter of minutes mid-way through the first half.

Rasmus Hojlund’s first goal for the club was shortly followed by a penalty for the German side – in what was yet another questionable VAR decision this season – but then Bayern would dominate the end of the game.

Two late goals from Casemiro wasn’t enough to secure anything from the game for United.

The player ratings can be read below.

Andre Onana – 4/10

Terrible mistake for Bayern’s opener. Helpless for the second as the ball was played on a plate inside his box again.

Diogo Dalot – 6/10

A few loose passes but one of United’s better progressors.

Victor Lindelof – 5/10

Not much to say about the performance.

Lisandro Martinez – 5.5/10

Looked slightly better than he has done in recent games. Crucial tackle near the start of the game.

Sergio Reguilon – 7.5/10

One of United’s best players He looks so keen to impress and provided useful actions both defensively and in the final third. So close to an assist.

Casemiro – 4.5/10

He started the game well, United started the game well. Then he started doing all the things he has been doing so far this season – poor positioning, timing, and passing – and then United dropped dramatically. They need someone next to him or to rotate with him. Ironically, two great goals to give United a chance – but no one is debating his ability in the opposition’s box.

Christian Eriksen- 3/10

A passenger out of possession. Very poor in possession. Mind you, it was never a penalty against him. VAR strikes again.

Bruno Fernandes – 4/10

Terrible performance. So wasteful on the ball in the second half. Good assist at the end.

Facundo Pellistri – 5.5/10

Faded out of the game in his Champions League debut.

Rasmus Hojlund – 7/10

Not much to work with. A few good pieces of hold-up play before a classic striker’s goal.

Marcus Rashford – 5.5/10

Not as many chances going forward but managed to assist Hojlund.

Substitutes

Scott McTominay – 5/10

Poor.

Anthony Martial – 7.5/10

Good impact.

Alejandro Garnacho – 7/10

Decent.
