Player Ratings: Aston Villa vs Manchester United (Premier League)
Manchester United won 2-1 against Aston Villa in the Premier League after a late winner from Scott McTominay.
United earned their lead through Rasmus Højlund, who is in red-hot form at the moment. Harry Maguire provided the important assist for the striker.
However, whilst Erik ten Hag’s side were ahead, it seemed obvious that a goal from the hosts would come sooner or later. Douglous Luiz scored midway through the second half.
Substitute Scott McTominay was able to secure the win with a powerful header, though, and United clawed their way closer to the top four.
The player ratings can be read below.
André Onana – 7.5/10
Some very important saves and sweeper actions. Kept United in the game.
Diogo Dalot – 8.5/10
Man of the Match. Continued impressive form, was excellent defensively and offered a lot going forward, including the pinpoint cross to McTominay for United to win the game.
Raphaël Varane – 6.5/10
His man run across him several times and was bailed out by Onana on at least one occasion but he was active and decent in passing. Decent on a tough night.
Harry Maguire – 7.5/10
Great assist and mostly solid. Got turned on a couple of occasions.
Luke Shaw – 6/10
Good performance. Worrying to come off at half-time.
Casemiro – 4.5/10
A worrying performance. Villa exposed the space in behind him and Mainoo too often.
Kobbie Mainoo – 7/10
Found difficulties out of possession, but great in possession again and absolutely key to United’s winner.
Bruno Fernandes – 6/10
Nothing special today. Got through a lot of work though.
Alejandro Garnacho – 7/10
Threatening all game whenever he’s could get forward. Also looking very unselfish on that right side, looked for Højlund several times with crosses. Slightly more direct and shoot-first when moved to the left.
Rasmus Højlund – 7.5/10
Another game, another goal. Excellent striker’s goal and overall game was solid too.
Marcus Rashford – 6.5/10
Looked dangerous again on the left. Linked up well and created some good chances through direct play.
Subs
Victor Lindelöf – 4/10
Found his return very difficult out of position.
Scott McTominay – 8/10
Clutch player. Great header to win the game.
Sofyan Amrabat – N/A
Jonny Evans – N/A
