Player ratings as three youngsters stand out in Man United’s 1-0 win vs Lyon
Manchester United won 1-0 against Lyon in their second pre-season fixture with Donny van de Beek scoring the only goal on his return to the side.
The Dutch midfielder took to the pitch in the second half for the first time since January and scored minutes after coming on.
It was again another strong second half showing from a younger side, which had the experience of Jonny Evans at the back, whilst the first half also had many positives to build from.
The player ratings for all of the United players can be viewed below.
Matej Kovar – 9/10
A very impressive display as the only player to play 90 minutes. Great distribution.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6/10
Some good moments but not much of an impact.
Raphael Varane – 7/10
The French defender captained United again and made some smart forward passes.
Lisandro Martinez – 6.5/10
Business as usual for the most part although was fortunate United did not concede a penalty after missing his challenge before Fernandez had to come in.
Alvaro Fernandez – 6/10
Not the best performance as the left-back looked too keen to impress. A couple of mistimed touches or passes.
Kobbie Mainoo – 8.5/10
Another authoritative performance at the base of midfield. He is very calm and composed in possession and will be keen to continue showing his ability ahead of the new season.
Mason Mount – 7/10
Some nice moments, especially when dropping deeper to help progress the play. He would hope to increase his attacking output as the games go on.
Hannibal Mejbri – 7.5/10
A very energetic performance and looked sharp throughout the first half.
Antony – 6/10
No real moments of quality on his return.
Jadon Sancho – 7/10
Came close to scoring and some good work on the break on multiple occasions. Still doesn’t look entirely sharp in close linkup play though.
Amad – 6.5/10
Circulating possession well and a few good moments but, like last week, a lack of killer instict in the final third.
Substitutes
Marc Jurado – 6.5/10
A decent performance on the right side of defence.
Will Fish – 6/10
Not much to do, a few loose passes but solid mostly.
Jonny Evans – 6.5/10
On his return to the pitch as a United player, Evans worked well in the backline. His well-timed tackle to stop a Lyon break brought a loud cheer from the crowd.
Brandon Williams – 6/10
Another decent display on the left side of defence.
Dan Gore – 9/10
A fabulous all-action midfield performance. Gritty in the tackle and produced a wonderful cross and assist for the opening goal.
Donny van de Beek – 8/10
A brilliantly taken goal in his first minutes back on the pitch after injury. Some other promising moments in the final third as well.
Fred – 8/10
A solid performance in and out of possession from the Brazilian.
Omari Forson – 6.5/10
Some good moments but also a couple loose touches.
Joe Hugill – 8/10
Displayed some excellent centre-forward play throughout his cameo, running the channels and holding the ball up well.
Isak Hansen-Aaroen – 7/10
Some impressive moments and almost came up with a goal after his dangerous effort was palmed wide of the post.
