PGMOL respond to Manchester United after complaints over two recent refereeing decisions

Manchester United chiefs believe that Ruben Amorim’s side have been on the wrong end of too many refereeing mistakes in the Premier League this season.

Manchester United currently sit sixth in the Premier League table after 16 games but have dropped some silly points in recent weeks.

Ruben Amorim’s side have drawn against the likes of Bournemouth, West Ham and Nottingham Forest. All of those were games where the Reds should have collected three points.

While the blame lays with Amorim and his squad, United executives appear to be frustrated with some of the refereeing decisions that have gone against them.

A high-profile VAR error was the nail in the coffin for Erik ten Hag at the beginning of last season and Amorim has also had his fair share of questionable decisions since then.

PGMOL respond to United after complaints

The most recent refereeing error involving United came in their latest outing when Antoine Semenyo
– who has been linked with an Old Trafford move – grabbed Diogo Dalot by the neck after a challenge.

Semenyo was only shown a yellow card and many United fans compared the situation to Casemiro’s red card for holding Will Hughes against Crystal Palace in 2022/23.

But, according to MailSport, it has been two other mistakes that United have brought up to the PGMOL in recent weeks.

The report claims that the failure to send off Aaron Wan-Bissaka for a second bookable offence against West Ham, and the failure to award a penalty for a handball at Wolves, are both decisions that have been brought up.

PGMOL have admitted to United that both of those decisions were errors by the referees, and United bosses are ‘growing increasingly frustrated’ at the continual mistakes.

The Reds are planning to hold a meeting with Howard Webb in the coming weeks, where they will seek an explanation for the poor decisions they have experienced.

United trying to apply pressure to officials

Nobody likes to complain about referees. That is exactly why VAR was introduced. Yet the complaints have never been stronger than right now.

It isn’t just happening to United, but the officiating across the Premier League is in a dire state and there seems to be no sign of improvements.

While some may not like the idea of United complaining about decisions going against them, others will remember when the officials randomly stopped awarding penalties to the Reds after Jurgen Klopp complained.

Amorim has already explained that he will not discuss refereeing errors in his interviews or press conferences, so those above him might feel like they should be applying some pressure.
